Second Grade

Second grade builds on foundational skills while encouraging greater independence and deeper understanding. Instruction follows state standards (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills) and supports the whole child—academically, socially and emotionally.

• Literacy: Expanding reading fluency and comprehension, developing vocabulary, and writing organized sentences and short paragraphs.
• Math: Strengthening addition and subtraction, introducing foundational multiplication concepts and solving multi-step problems.
• Science & Social Studies: Investigating scientific ideas and exploring communities, geography and history through inquiry

• Hands-on, interactive lessons with a mix of whole group, small group and independent activities
• Opportunities for collaboration, discussion and problem-solving
• Integration of real-world connections to deepen understanding
• Structured routines that promote independence and responsibility

• Social and emotional growth through teamwork, communication and self-management
• Physical development through recess and active learning
• Building confidence, curiosity, and perseverance
