History of Brinker Elementary

Opened in 1988 at a cost of $3.2 million, Brinker Elementary School proudly honors the legacy of Maureen Connolly Brinker, affectionately known as “Little Mo.” She made history as the first woman to win the Grand Slam in 1953, capturing all four major tennis championships in a single year. Dominating women’s tennis from 1951 to 1954, Maureen Connolly Brinker remains one of the sport’s most celebrated athletes. She was the youngest player ever to achieve this remarkable feat and one of only a select few in history to do so.

Born in 1934, Brinker later moved to Dallas in 1963 with her family. Her husband, Norman Brinker, went on to found the successful Steak and Ale restaurant chain. Maureen Connolly Brinker’s legacy of excellence, determination, and perseverance continues to inspire generations of students.

Brinker Elementary was officially dedicated on November 20, 1988. In 2014, the campus underwent a comprehensive $12 million renovation, which included the addition of a new wing for kindergarten through second grade classrooms. This expansion significantly increased classroom space, enhancing the learning environment and supporting high-quality instruction.

Today, Brinker Elementary is a modern, innovative campus equipped with up-to-date technology to support student success. Each student is provided with a Chromebook, and classrooms are designed to foster collaboration, creativity, and academic growth. Brinker remains committed to empowering students and staff with the tools and resources needed to thrive in a dynamic educational environment.
